Easter, Easter Baskets & Braces: The Ultimate Family Guide for Forsyth County Families

Easter is one of the most candy-heavy holidays of the year — and one of the most bracket-breaking if you’re not careful! From jelly beans to caramel eggs, the Easter basket can be a hidden danger zone for kids in braces. At BCR Orthodontics, we want Easter to be a joyful celebration without the emergency repair visit the following Monday.

This guide covers what’s safe, what’s not, and where to find the most amazing braces-friendly Easter treats right here in Winston-Salem, Clemmons, and King. Plus — we’re sharing our favorite spring activities for kids and one of the most beloved spring traditions in our area.

Easter Candy: The Safe List

Plain milk chocolate (Reese’s peanut butter eggs, Cadbury milk chocolate), soft chocolate truffles, yogurt-covered pretzels (soft), Peeps marshmallows (in moderation — soft, no hard coating), soft cookies and shortbread, spring cupcakes from a local bakery, soft ice cream, and chocolate mousse are all excellent Easter basket options for brace wearers.

Easter Candy to Avoid with Braces

Robin’s Eggs (hard malted milk), jelly beans (sticky and hard), Peeps with hard candy coating, Cadbury Creme Eggs (chewy caramel center), caramel-filled eggs, jawbreaker eggs, chocolate-covered nuts, and Easter candy corn. Many Easter candies are specifically designed to be hard or chewy — read the label carefully.

The Best Easter Basket Strategy for Braces Families

Fill baskets with soft treats, small toys, books, craft supplies, and gift cards. A small amount of parent-approved soft chocolate goes a long way. Consider adding a fun new toothbrush, flavored toothpaste, or floss picks with spring designs — kids genuinely find these fun!
